Murphey's 2nd Gas Law

The feast of knowledge is before you on the world wide web. But in the midst of wheat is the chaff that must be sifted out before the meal begins. To help you gain a feel for finding specific information on the web complete the following assignment:

Over the past few years the popular press has carried articles on the deadly Ebola virus. Even a movie has been produced based on events surrounding incidents with this virus.

Search the web for information surrounding this virus and record addresses (URLs) and submit a printout. You can save URLs by selecting the Add Bookmark menu option under the BookMark menu. Select five sites that have the best primary information/data on the virus and print

I will respond whenever I receive your message. If I do not respond you should assume that your message never arrived.

Word Processing

• Reproduce the word processing handout using your favorite word processor.
• Print a copy.
• Save the word processing file on a floppy disk and submit the disk and hard copy to your instructor.

Spreadsheets

The following is a spreadsheet assignment. Submit to your instructor the completed spreadsheet on a floppy disk along with a printout.

Design a spreadsheet to be used as an automated gradebook.

• The first column is to record student names (26 max).
  
• Columns B,C,D are to be used to record exams 1, 2 & 3 respectively.
  
• Columns E,F,G are to be used to record quizes 1, 2 & 3 respectively.
  
• Column H is to be used to record the score on a formal lab report.
  
• Column I is to be used to show the student's total points. Use the sum() function to sum over the range of columns B-H
  
• Column J will express the total points as a percentage of the number of points possible. This will require dividing the total points by the total maximum possible points from row 2 and then multiplying by 100.
• Column K is to be used to show the student's letter grade using the following criteria:
  
• A= 90% to100%, B= 80% through 89%, C=70% through 79%, D= 60 through 69%, and F= 59% and below. This will require setting up a series of nested IF(condition, true,false) statements.

• Row 1 is used to put the TITLE, SEMESTER and YEAR.
  
• Row 2 will be for entering the maximum points assigned to each exam, quiz or report.
  
• Row 3 has the column headings.
  
• Rows 4-30 are for student data input.
  
• Row 31 is left blank.
  
• Row 32 will be for calculation of the average of each column. Look for a built-in function in your spread sheet that will do this automatically over the range of cells from rows4-30.
  
• Row 33 will be for calculation of the standard deviation. Again, look for a built-in function.

After you have completed the spreadsheet save it to a floppy disk under the name Template make a copy of this file and call it Data. Open the Data spreadsheet and enter names & values into the data cells. Make sure the spreadsheet is calculating the values the way you want.
