DNA Synthesis

During DNA synthesis nucleotides are added to the 3' end of the DNA by a polymerase enzyme that recognizes a coplementary base on the template strand of DNA.  Therefore the DNA synthesis is always in a 5'->3' direction (Fig 4.16).
