Cardiovascular Problem Set
1.  Assuming resistance to be equal in 2 blood vessels of equal length, which one will have the greatest flow ?  Why?

Vessel 1:  P= 100 mmHg,  P= 10 mmHg
Vessel 2:  P1 = 500 mmHg,  P2 = 410 mmHg

2.  A physiologist measures blood flow to the soleus muscle to be 5 ml/ min.  When the animal is running, the resistance vessel supplying blood to the soleus dilates so as to double its radius.  What is the blood flow to the exercising muscle?  (Assume the only factor to change during exercise is resistance).

3.  The following parameters were measured in the microcirculation of a skeletal muscle:

Pc (capillary hydrostatic pressure) = 34 mmHg
    P(interstitial fluid hydrostatic pressure) = 10 mmHg
Oc  (capillary plasma oncotic pressure) = 25 mmHg
Oi  (interstitial fluid oncotic pressure)  = 1 mmHg

At this point along the capillary, which would occur, filtration or reabsorption ?  Explain.

4.  What change in the radius of a blood vessel would have to be made to decrease flow to 1/2 its original flow rate ?
