Gray Treefrog (Hyla
versicolor)
The gray treefrog, Hyla versicolor, has a slower
and much more mellow trill than the Hyla chrysoscelis, but
are otherwise undistinguishable. It has only been found in three
counties in the Fort Knox area of Kentucky. At times within this
limited range, both species of gray treefrogs can be heard calling side
by side throughout the warmer months of the year. These gray/ pale
green frogs are extremely well camouflaged as they blend in well with their
rough bark substrate, making their presence unknown until they call.
